In the twenty-first century, the pharmaceutical and biotech industries have planned and progressed much beyond their roots and beginnings in nineteenth-century pharmacy. The origins of this industry are the apothecaries and pharmacies that supplied traditional cures as far back as the Middle Ages, offering a hit-or-miss range of therapies based on centuries of folk knowledge.
